What We Face

THE PRESENT…
The year is 2033, huge leaps in technology have allowed the equine race to travel to the moon. In the year 2020, construction work started on Lunar Base Alpha, a self-contained research facility to further the exploration of the moon's surface. By the year 2030, the base is complete and thousands of workers are sent in to man the station.
Among other things, new sources of clean energy are being researched and excavations underway to explore the mysterious Lunar surface.
In the year 2032, the scientists discover ancient technology underneath the caverns of the moon belonging to a certain "UAC" corporation.  Scattered blueprints have lead scientists on a wild rush to find more, and perhaps reconstruct this so called 'Instant Transmission Relay" which till now, was nothing but a legendary magical device created by a race known as humans...

THE PAST…
20 years ago, news of a grisly murderer spread throughout Equestria like a wild fire. A certain unnamed earth pony had been torturing and killing poinies; brutally gutting them and make cupcakes out of their remains.  12 ponies had died in the killing spree, a 13th victim, a pegasus named Rainbow Dash, was saved at the last minute by a unicorn named Twilight Sparkle, albeit at the cost of her wings and cutie mark methodically skinned off. The unicorn had managed to uncover the plot and along with several members of the Equestrian Royal Guard, apprehended the earth pony whose name was revealed to be Pinkamena Diane Pie.
On July 2nd, 2013, on orders from the Department of Justice and with the sanction of the Princesses, Pinkamena Diane Pie was hanged for the murders of 12 ponies, and the attempted murder of a 13th and several others. Her body was laid to rest on her family's farm in South-West Equestria.
For a long time, these murders incited fear in the Equestrian populace. News of the violent and cruel deaths reached as far as the Republic of Germaney and the Kingdom of Griffonia.  This pony: Pinkamena Diane Pie, had left a scar on the entire Eastern Continent with some of the most vile acts ever committed in the 3000 years of the Kingdom of Equestria…

SUPERSTITION
What happens when a pony dies? Can they ever live again? Some say the good enjoy an eternal tranquility in Elyisum where the good receive a life free from toil, a bright paradise free from sickenss, pain and death.
Those who were truly despicable, the murderers, rapists, extortions and other low lives, were cast into a dark and firey pit of suffering  and pure darkness…
A place no mortal pony was ever meant to experience… a place full of so much evil not a single speck of light could be found. A place dark and cruel…
Thousands of years ago a mysterious race known as 'humans' had been there by accident, opening it up using a magical device known as an "Instant Transmission Relay"…  little did they know what was on the other end of the portal they had created… It was almost the end of their race… in a last ditch attempt, a brave soul managed to break through to the doleful realm and sacrifice his life to close the portal from the other side. The "I.T.R" was quickly dismantled and the humans fled the from the moon…
Though of course, one should take the such ramblings about Elysium, humans, and a dimension where the wicked are sent to suffer with a pinch of salt...… they are just supersitions after all…
Or are they? Who can really know what truth lies in the tales passed down from generations...
